“Our greatest hope with the Rappaport Prize is to stimulate and advance artistic energy and expression.”
Phyllis Rappaport, Foundation Chairperson
Why Art?
Think of the ways artists shape the way we look at the world and one other. Artists, like leaders in politics and medicine, have the potential to influence our perspective on life and the nature of self. Contemporary artists work in the now. In raising the awareness of and appreciation for the artistic leaders among us today, the Rappaport Foundation hopes to inspire a community and perhaps, a nation.
The Prize is foremost an investment in both an individual and the broader community. For the artist it reflects recognition of his/her abilities, talent, and future promise. For the community it reflects the importance of art to encourage the value of creativity within the region.
This year, the Prize has been awarded to
Maria Magdalena
Campos-Pons, one of the most influential photographers working today and an innovator in the medium.
