Project Description
qainat’s research for City Councilor Lydia Edwards focused on how municipalities can leverage their planning and zoning powers to ensure government and private actors are doing their part to affirmatively further fair housing and overcome the legacy of residential segregation. qainat worked at WBUR, an NPR radio station in Boston, producing newscasts before entering law school. During her time covering local news, she worked on stories highlighting the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable residents, focusing on issues including housing, racial justice, and economic development. qainat earned a Master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and studied music and gender studies as an undergraduate at Colby College, graduating magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
