A leadership role of the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport Center of Excellence in Basic Neuroscience Research at McLean Hospital

Endowed in 2021, the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport Chair in Psychiatry, is tied to the leadership role of the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport Center of Excellence in Basic Neuroscience Research at McLean Hospital.  Bill Carlezon, PhD, is the chair’s inaugural incumbent. Dr. Carlezon leads McLean’s Basic Neuroscience Division and is director of McLean’s Behavioral Genetics Laboratory as well as the SPARED Center, one of only a handful of prestigious National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Silvio O. Conte Centers in the nation.  A veteran scientist, generative mentor and gifted leader, Dr. Carlezon’s research focuses on the biological basis and treatment of psychiatric illness, specifically the ways in which nature and nurture affect how the brain develops and is modified in response to experience.
